  APPLICATION SOLVENT BASED SYSTEM

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 - Clean the mold with Zyvax SURFACE CLEANER

  1. Liberally apply SURFACE CLEANER to a clean cloth, Bounty paper towel or directly on to the mold.

  2. Work quickly and wipe SURFACE CLEANER into the mold.

  3. While still wet, wipe SURFACE CLEANER off using a separate clean cloth or fresh Bounty towel.

  4.  Repeat steps 1 through 3 until the mold is clean.

TIP:
To test for surface cleanliness, wipe SURFACE CLEANER onto the mold and allow to flash off. Hazing or streaking is a sign of contamination and/or wax build up. Continue repeating steps 1 through 3 until clean. The mold should have a “water break free” surface when clean.

Step 2 - Seal the mold with Zyvax Sealer GP

  1. Apply SEALER GP to a clean cotton cloth or Bounty paper towel.
  2. Gently wipe SEALER GP onto the mold, for larger molds work in sections of about 1-2 sq. ft. at a time.
  3. WHILE STILL WET, gently wipe off all excess SEALER GP using a separate clean cloth or Bounty paper towel until dry.  Allow a 15 minute dry time before application of another coat of SEALER GP.
  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 according to the chart below.
  5. After the final coat, wait at least 30 minutes before applying the release agent.

Step 3 - Apply Zyvax FIBERGLASS SHIELD release agent*

  1. Apply FIBERGLASS SHIELD to a clean cotton cloth or Bounty paper towel.

  2. Gently wipe FIBERGLASS SHIELD onto the mold, for larger molds work in sections of about 1-2 sq. ft. at a time.

  3. WHILE STILL WET, gently wipe off all excess FIBERGLASS SHIELD using a separate clean cloth or Bounty paper towel until dry.  Allow a 15 minute dry time before application of another coat of FIBERGLASS SHIELD.

  4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the second coat of FIBERGLASS SHIELD.

  5. After the final coat, wait at least 30 minutes before applying the release agent.

*FiberGlass Shield could equally be substituted with MultiShield, or Composite Shield depending upon the type of molding application, and requirements.

Step 4 - Start molding your parts

There is no way to accurately calculate the number of parts you can take from your mold after an application of the Zyvax system before a “Touch Up” of the mold release is required. Mold surfaces, techniques, raw materials and conditions all vary. At some point, parts will begin to demold with increasing effort. It is up to you to decide when to move to step 5. It is however recommended that on very large or thin flexible moldings or where components have a shallow draft or long pull, that you touch up the corners and any recessed areas of the mold between every molding with a single coat of Fiberglass Shield to ensure an easy release of the part.

Step 5 - Touch up with one coat of FIBERGLASS SHIELD

  1. Apply FIBERGLASS SHIELD to a clean cotton cloth or Bounty paper towel.

  2. Gently wipe a single coat of FIBERGLASS SHIELD onto the mold, for larger molds work in sections of about 1-2 sq. ft. at a time.

  3. WHILE STILL WET, gently wipe off using a separate clean cloth or Bounty paper towel until dry.

  4. Wait at least 30 minutes at room temperature before molding.

Step 6 - Continue molding

Demolding now should occur with less effort. Continue molding until you are not comfortable with the removal of the part. You can now either repeat Step 5, or move onto Step 7.

Step 7 - Stripping a Mold with Zyvax SURFACE CLEANER

At this point, you have determined that a single touch up coat does not noticeable enhance the releasability of the part. It is now time to strip the mold using Zyvax SURFACE CLEANER as outlined in Step 1.  After stripping the mold IT IS ESSENTIAL that you work through from Step 2, Re-Sealing and Releasing the mold surface ready for use.
